A good night of sleep can have you feeling your best, while losing sleep can contribute to irritability, memory problems, and experiencing more falls or accidents. But how do you sleep well? The National Institute on Aging has some suggestions for how to get a good night’s sleep:
- Follow a regular sleep schedule and develop a bedtime routine that allows you to relax before bed.
- Use low lighting in the evening, and don’t use computers, cell phones, or tablets in the bed room.
- Exercise at regular times each day, but not within 3 hours of bedtime.
- Remember that alcohol won’t help you sleep, and can make it hard to stay asleep even if you drink small amounts.
