How Baby Boomers Impact Society
Baby Boomers are pivotal in American history. Not just because they were born in high birth rate period. The world is a different place because of this unique group of people.
Most authorities list those born between 1946 and 1964 as Boomers. But they are subdivided into two groups. The first group of those born before 1955 are very much impacted by Vietnam and the draft. They tend to be free spirits, individualistic and by many standards-Indulgent. Those born from 1956 to 1964 are more influenced by Watergate and gas shortages.
In part simply because of their group size, Boomers have had a tremendous impact on life. They think differently than their parents. They have made their mark in the class room and the workplace. This generation has redefined parenthood, retirement and aging. Stereotypes fail for the Boomers. Some took to the street to affect change. Others used leaflet or working from within to call for change. Whatever the course of action, Baby Boomers equal change.
With 28% of the population being Boomers, their impact continues. They are now mature adults and beginning to retire. Many will be retiring later than previous generations. A high level of creative business and personal energy sets this group in stark contrast to previous retirement age groups.
Boomers face the coming retirement years with more of a positive vision than a depressed view. As a group, they intend to not only retire later but plan for some post retirement work activity. Many plan to be self employed. Over 75% expect to spend quality time with family. And what a large impact these Grandparents are having on the toy business.
More than 50% of Baby Boomers are confident that their finances will be adequate for retirement. And folks in this group tend to be frequent travelers.
